History of Gorilla Glue#4

Gorilla Glue #4 — now also known as GG4 or Original Glue — has one of the more unusual origin stories in modern cannabis breeding. Created in the United States by breeders Joesy Whales and Lone Watty of GG Strains, GG4 originated from an accidental pollination involving Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb and Chocolate Diesel genetics. Seeds from the resulting plants were preserved and later grown out, with phenotype #4 emerging as the exceptional selection that would ultimately become famous around the world.

The strain earned the “Glue” name because of its extraordinary resin production. Mature flowers can develop such a dense coating of sticky trichomes that resin accumulates heavily on hands and trimming equipment — giving rise to the original Gorilla Glue #4 name. Its combination of potency, heavy resin production and distinctive earthy, pine, sour and diesel character helped GG4 quickly gain a following among growers and breeders.

GG4’s reputation accelerated dramatically in 2014 after it achieved major success at the High Times Cannabis Cups. The original cultivar was clone-only, but its popularity subsequently inspired feminized seed selections and numerous crosses designed to preserve the distinctive characteristics associated with the original GG4 genetics.

Following a trademark dispute with the Gorilla Glue adhesive company, the original breeders transitioned away from the Gorilla Glue name. The cultivar consequently became officially known as Original Glue, although Gorilla Glue #4 and GG4 remain the names most commonly associated with the strain.

Growing Gorilla Glue in Australia (Outdoors)

Gorilla Glue can be well suited to outdoor growing in suitable Australian climates because of its vigorous growth, substantial yield potential and ability to develop into a large plant when given sufficient root space and sunlight. As a photoperiod strain, flowering is triggered naturally as daylight hours shorten rather than according to the plant’s age.

In warmer Australian regions with long growing seasons, GG4 has the potential to become a particularly vigorous outdoor plant. Growers in cooler southern regions need to pay closer attention to the finishing period, as the dense, resinous flowers associated with Gorilla Glue can become vulnerable to moisture-related problems if flowering coincides with extended cool or wet weather.

Gorilla Glue typically requires approximately 8–10 weeks of flowering, although the exact timing varies between phenotypes and growing conditions. Outdoor harvest timing in Australia will therefore depend heavily on latitude, local climate and when seasonal daylight triggers flowering. Rather than relying on a fixed harvest date, plant maturity and local weather conditions provide a more reliable guide.

GG4 can stretch considerably as it enters flowering and responds well to adequate space and good airflow. Its heavy flowers can also place considerable weight on branches later in the season, so plant structure and support can become important as flowers mature. Under favourable outdoor conditions, healthy plants can produce approximately 550–700+ grams per plant, although outdoor yields vary enormously according to climate, plant size, growing conditions and cultivation experience.

The best temperature to store your seeds is between 5-8 degrees Celsius.    So the fridge is definitely your safest option.   It’s best to avoid temperature variance, so somewhere deep in the fridge in the sealed ziplock bags they come in. 

That’s it!   For long term storage, you may want to consider adding a silica pack inside a small glass jar with the seeds still in the ziplock inside the small glass airtight jar.
