Choosing the right Cannabis Seeds
With so many strains available, choosing the right cannabis seeds comes down to what characteristics matter most to you. Consider the type of seed, genetics, plant characteristics and the time and space available before comparing individual strains.
'Feminized' Photo Period or Auto Flower?
CG only sells ‘feminized seeds’. This means our entire range is engineered to produce female flowers only, but we have 2 types of seeds being Photo Period or Auto flowering and to answer the question of which type is best for you there are 2 main considerations:
a) Are you growing indoors? If YES, then go with Photo Period. As you have full control over your lighting schedule, you control when the plants flip from vegetative to bloom cycle.
b) Are you growing Outdoors? Do you want 2 to 3 smaller harvests over the Australian growing season (ie. Sep – May), or 1 (possibly 2) massive end of season harvests? There is more info in our Grow Guide, but basically, photo period plants grow much larger than Auto Flowering plants and take longer to mature. For this reason it’s important to understand how much space you have. A large photo period plant can easily reach 6 foot tall, whereas the standard Auto, will reach 3-4 foot max when fully branched out.
Indica or Sativa Dominant?
Indica-dominant strains generally develop into slightly shorter, bushier plants and are generally used more for medicinal purposes with a more heavy sedative stone when consumed. They also typically have a slightly shorter flowering time than Sativa’s. For example, Northern Lights has a very short flowering time of 7-8 weeks, whereas Mimosa Famosa (Sativa dominant), has a flowering time of 9-10 weeks.
Sativa-dominant varieties tend to grow taller with greater spacing between branches making them more suitable for high humid areas in Australia. The high tends to be more euphoric and less sedative compared with Indica’s.
Hybrids combine characteristics from both and now make up many of the world’s most popular strains. For example, one of our most favourite (and most popular strains) Gorilla Glue, has a 50/50 mix of Sativa/Indica.

Cheese Feminized. One of my favorites. Extremely resinous, thick buds. Not much smell, but a very smooth taste. I only grow outside in a sandy soil and I have had no problems with this strain. Along with tea and crumpets, the best thing the English have ever created.
